These meteorites where found by my grandfather Donald Hase
who saw them come down many years ago. The exact date is not know. After
his death in 1985 they were passed down to me.
You can see where
the meteorites have bubbled with the heat upon entry into the Earth's
atmosphere. This has also given them a smooth shinny surface. I have seen
lots of meteorites in museums and pictures in books but I have not come
across any quite like this.
The picture above
shows the bottom side of the larger meteorite. You can see where half of
it has broken away. This was possible during entry into the Earth's
atmosphere or upon impact with the ground.
What strikes most
people about them when they pick them up is that they weigh more than you
expect for there size. The large one on the left weighs 750g and the
smaller one on the right weighs approximately 500g.
